What Is Hypnotherapy?
Do you ever wish you could quiet your inner critic, ease anxiety, or break free from self-doubt, but no matter how hard you try, your conscious mind just keeps looping the same thoughts?
That’s where Hypnotherapy can help.
Hypnotherapy is a safe, natural therapeutic approach that helps you access your subconscious mind—the deeper part of your brain where automatic habits, beliefs, and emotional patterns are stored.
When you're in a state of focused relaxation (hypnosis), you're more open to suggestions that align with what you truly want: more confidence, calm, clarity, or freedom from unhelpful patterns.
Hypnosis is not mind control. You remain aware and in control at all times. It simply allows your mind to pause the chatter and access the part of you that’s ready for change.
Think of your mind as having two parts:
Your conscious mind: logical, analytical, always thinking things through
Your subconscious mind: emotional, automatic, often shaped by past experiences
Even when we know something logically (e.g., "I'm safe now," or "I can do this"), our subconscious may hold onto outdated beliefs, fears, or emotional triggers.
Hypnotherapy gently guides you into a relaxed state where you can:
Rewire unhelpful beliefs (e.g., "I'm not good enough")
Release stress or past emotional baggage
Strengthen positive traits like confidence, focus, or calm
What Does a Session Involve?
Each session is tailored to your individual needs. A typical session includes:
A brief chat to explore the issue you're facing and how you’d like to feel instead
Relaxation induction, helping you feel grounded, calm and safe
Therapeutic suggestions or imagery aligned with your goals (e.g., overcoming anxiety, sleeping better, building self-worth)
Gentle re-alerting and time to reflect on the experience
Many clients describe hypnosis as feeling like a deep daydream or a warm sense of drifting, but everyone experiences it in their own way.

FAQs About Hypnotherapy
-
Yes, it really works. You are not the only one to be sceptical, many of my clients are when they first come and see me. Check out some of the review comments for Tim Maude Hypnotherapy on “Google My Business”. If you are still sceptical – read what the NHS has to say about hypnotherapy.
-
When you go into a hypnotic trance you are relaxed and comfortable. It is a bit like when you are in bed and half awake and half asleep – relaxed and sort of aware of what is going on and occasionally your mind wanders.
-
Hypnotherapy is perfectly safe. No hypnotherapist can make you do something you don’t want to. You can choose to come out of trance at any time. You can check out what the NHS says about hypnotherapy
-
Unfortunately not. No hypnotherapist can guarantee success, no more than a doctor can guarantee that their treatment will work. All I can say is that the vast majority of my clients go away more than happy that they have come to see me.
-
I typically see clients once a week for between three and six weeks. It is not possible to give an accurate estimate

What If I Can’t Be Hypnotised?
Everyone can be guided into a relaxed state with the right approach and rapport. Hypnosis is a natural state we all enter daily, like just before you fall asleep, or when you're so absorbed in a book or film that you forget the world around you.
You don’t need to “try”, just be open to relaxing and following the gentle guidance.
